What is outsourcing?
‘Outsourcing’ is used to describe the process an organization goes through when it decides to contract out all or part of the development, maintenance and management of its information systems or business processes (e.g. application maintenance or card processing). The contractor then has responsibility for the successful delivery of the service for the duration of the contract. When outsourcing IT activities, employees are often transferred from the client to the service provider.
